Geese Management

The city receives several calls each year related to problems with the number of geese on area lawns. Visit the Minnesota DNR for more information on what to do about geese.

Native Plants and Vegetation

Lakeshore property owners should consider adding a buffer of native shoreline plants and vegetation to their lawn at the water's edge. This practice reduces the amount of required lawn maintenance and upkeep in the long run as well as deters geese. Geese stay away from buffers because of the threat of predators. Predators often use these densely planted areas to hide and catch unsuspecting prey; thus, geese often stay away from such buffers.
