Household Recycling

For a searchable list of items, including instructions for proper recycling or disposal, visit Ramsey County’s A to Z Recycling & Disposal Guide. A number of items can be repaired, rather than disposed of or thrown away. Consider bringing your fixable items to a Ramsey County Fix-It Clinic.

For more recycling information, visit Ramsey County's Recycling at Home page.

Mattresses and Box Springs

Mattresses and box springs are problematic in the waste stream because they are hard to move, clog up equipment and are nearly impossible to compact in a landfill. Look for reuse and recycling options instead of disposing of mattresses and box springs in the trash.

Reuse Tips

  • Give your old set to a relative or friend. Consider donating, but be aware that very few charities accept mattresses unless they are in excellent condition.
  • Mattresses are commonly listed on online sales or materials exchange sites for residents who want to buy or sell reusable goods for the home, garage, and garden.

  • For a small fee, Second Chance Recycling will pickup your old mattress and deconstruct it for recycling. You can schedule a pick up and find pricing information on their website.
